Unreleased joint off that Jay Love Japan lp.
Just came back from holiday and I feel quite relaxed, lol. I’m listenin to this new Alicia Keys record and despite moving over 700k units I’m not that impressed. But, I give her credit for not being another typical R&B chic. Here’s a cut from her last lp.
Issued in the spring of 1976, It’s Good to Be Alive was D.J. Rogers’ RCA debut after having recorded for Leon Russell’s Shelter label. It was a unique mix of soul and gospel that featured the original version of his classic ballad , “Say You Love Me” as well as today’s featured classic.
After helping Slave create a major part of funk history, Steve Arrington broke ranks to do his own thing, and in the process created two albums that still, when played today, sound as fresh as the decade they were released. Today’s cut is from his, Steve Arrington’s Hall Of Fame Vol. 1, lp.
I first heard of this group (fronted by the original Robin Thicke: Jon B) on the Red Star Sounds soundtrack, and even though they never officially released an album it’s not hard to find.
So much better than the original.
The male Chaka Khan? Maybe. But Rahsaan Patterson is also known as a pretty solid writer, having penned hits for Tevin Campbell and Brandy amongst others. This joint stays in heavy rotation.
The pop covers on this release are not that inspiring, but the reason why this release is sought after is due to the production provided by Charles Stepney. Lewis’s ‘Les Fleur’ cover is just as powerful even without Minnie’s vocals.
One of the many ill mixes from the late James Yancey.
