I’m about to shine

December 12, 2007

With her debut solo release, Infinite Possibilities, Amel Larrieux helped solidify the burgeoning “neo-soul” movement as a true alternative to the cookie cutter hip hop-soul that was cluttering the airwaves in early 2000. This song always stuck out because it’s one of those uplifting joints that isn’t too preachy. A definite feel good record.

After helping Slave create a major part of funk history, Steve Arrington broke ranks to do his own thing, and in the process created two albums that still, when played today, sound as fresh as the decade they were released.  Today’s cut is from his, Steve Arrington’s Hall Of Fame Vol. 1, lp.

Jack Herrera

November 8, 2007

I first heard of this group (fronted by the original Robin Thicke: Jon B) on the Red Star Sounds soundtrack, and even though they never officially released an album it’s not hard to find.

The male Chaka Khan? Maybe. But Rahsaan Patterson is also known as a pretty solid writer, having penned hits for Tevin Campbell and Brandy amongst others.  This joint stays in heavy rotation.
